Our most recent destination was Key West, Florida, a warm, fun location for an Oklahoma farm-girl writer. Our daughter’s wedding on the beach at Casa Marina felt close to a Princess Kate fantasy. The bride – our own Hollywood star!

Every tourist must taste the original Key Lime Pie and visit Mallory Square to watch the sunset. One evening, we went on a cruise on the Fury. Here are a few pictures of the island for those who was to get away to an inspiring place to write.

The next day, we rented a moped and toured the 2 X 4 mile island, got an electric car the next day, and then relaxed on a sailboat! Yep, I’d go back. Ernest Hemingway’s airy home inspired this old writer, and Fort Zachary Taylor’s beach was as blue as a Bird-of-Paradise. Key West, here I come.

Louisiana Plantation pics

Ever want to tour old plantations? St Francisville is the place to visit. My all-time highest-seen blog is from our trip to Louisiana. (Could be the way I linked it.) See the first one at: http://atomic-temporary-2031384.wpcomstaging.com/2008/04/15/louisiana-plantations/

Around the town of St. Francisville are almost a dozen plantations dated back to the 1800’s and a few even older. Although most of the plantations are open year round, and have guided tours at a minimal cost, consider going when the Azaleas are in bloom like during April. Color is everywhere. Spanish moss, old cemeteries, and huge trees. Slave cabins, the finest antiques, and a history nowhere else. Stay a day or two at a bed and breakfast. It is well worth the trip. I’d love to go back some day.

This first picture is the Greenwood Plantation, the grandest example with 28 columns around it. Others to tour are the Catalpa Plantation, Myrtle Plantation and the Oakley House at Audobon State Park.

We loved the Oak Alley Plantation, (picture in the prior blog) maybe because my husband gave me a Keith Andry painting of it on our first date – which I’ll never sell. 🙂

Grand Lake, Oklahoma

I spent a wonderful weekend with my mom, brothers and sisters and in -laws (no children!) My gracious aunt and uncle let us use their cabin on Grand Lak, in northwest Oklahoma. Besides being quiet and peaceful and relaxing and fishing and campfires and… well, what more do you want? Thanks, family. All of you! I enjoyed the time together.

Red River, New Mexico

A camping trip with family multiplies the fun. Thirty-nine of us (including 14 kids 11 years old and under!) convoyed 10 hours or more to a campsite on the Red River, New Mexico.
