God’s love gushes like a fountain.

How can God love me this much

when my past is flawed and dirty,
when my faults bring filth and scorn?
When my head hangs low in disgrace
and my mind sees only thorns?

Can the mountains cry “He’s bigger?”
Can the mouse squeak, “Him I see?”
Is He monstrous, huge or minuscule
— or somewhere in between?

 Can His love be therapeutic?
Bring new health to weary bones?
Will He help me when I’m tortured?
Can He hear my silent moans?

God’s love gushes like a fountain,
flows from depths I cannot see.
I may never comprehend it, but I gulp
–  and I am free.

Written the day before NW Summit conference. God’s love overwhelms me sometimes and I cry to think  how much I don’t deserve it.  That’s when He reassures me of His love and  joy comes to my heart.

Ready to leave

Keren and I are leaving in the morning (Thurs, April 8th) to go to Portland where Aunt Carol will pick us up. The WMU Conference will be on the 9th and 10th. Please pray for us, and pray for the women attending the conference – that He touches hearts as He prepares them for mission work. He knows the future plans for each precious lady and what struggles they have gone through.

Of course, God has an individual plan for each of us.  Let’s hold one another up, friends, for the rest of life’s journey.

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are also  surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily besets us and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

Looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of God.

NW Summit Conference

I’m so excited about speaking to women at the Northwest Summit Conference this next weekend! And nervous, too. I pray that God will direct my words, my deliverance and He will touch the ones who need to hear from Him. I’ll share some of my testimony I’ve never shared before, but I do believe God can use whatever we have gone through in life to His glory.

No one is alone in life’s journey, and by sharing my struggles, maybe someone else can be encouraged to run their race and not give up!

Also, pray that my sore throat goes away by then. 🙂

Writing from the heart

Soul Survivor, the latest book by Philip Yancey, is a trbiute to mentors who helped transform his life. The book is so much better than I thought it would be, but I should have known it would be soul searching. I bought it and had Yancey sign it to give to Terry, our Bible teacher, but of course, I had to read it first. 🙂 Here’s a quote from Heni Nouwen, the last mentor discussed. It’s about writing.

Most students think that writing mean writing down ideas, insights, visions. They feel that they must first have something to say before they can put it down on paper. For them writing is little more than recording a pre-existent thought. But with this approach true writing is impossible. Writing is a process in which we discover what lives in us. The writing itself reveals what is alive . . . The deepest satisfaction of writing is precisely that it opens up new spaces within us of which we were not aware before we started to write. To write is to embark on a journey whose final destination we do not know.

(From Reflections on Theological Education by Henri Nouwen)

Questful Youth

Against the tainted sky
the amber glows
and twilight casts its shadow
long before
the eve of youth revives.

Away from smoother roads of ease
a breeze, of questful youth
will never cease
to read the skies for God
and answers to their sulking needs.

Whoever favors listening
to sight and sounds
and spirits sing
will rejoice to see the sky
is painted hues
that only God can use
to answer quests of searching youth.
